Welcome to the Kyoto Congress- ようこそ IATDMCT京都大会へ

By Yusuke Tanigawara, Congress Chair - 大会長 谷川原 祐介

Welcome to the 15th Congress of the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring & Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT) in Kyoto.

国際薬物治療モニタリング&臨床毒性学会の第15回学術大会(IATDMCT京都大会)へご参加いただき有難うございます。

DC 2017 Mon 1 Kyoto Collage

Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan has blended diverse cultures and is called the spiritual home of Japanese people through its long history of more than 1200 years. Kyoto is a world heritage city preserving original Japanese culture and a lot of beautiful architecture and scenery. Kyoto is not only a historic city; it is also a tourist city, attracting more than 50 million visitors annually. Delicious Kyoto cuisine, whose colorful appearance provides a feast for the eyes, is an art created by superb cooking ingredients and techniques. Moreover, Kyoto is an academic research city, being home to universities and junior colleges, as well as an environmentally advanced city which can be a role model for low carbon and recycle-oriented society. Kyoto is a city with a variety of attractive features.

The Congress venue, Kyoto International Conference Center is located in north Kyoto city, directly connected by subway to the city center. The IATDMCT Congress provides a unique opportunity for promoting, updating and learning the science and clinical practice of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology, in other words pharmacology and toxicology based on the measurement of drug concentrations in human specimens. The Congress offers a comprehensive scientific program, including applications to a variety of therapeutic fields and new diagnostic and analytical techniques. More than 90 distinguished experts will give stimulating lectures, and the 360 papers to be presented were submitted from 33 countries over the world, which indicates TDM and CT are definitely expanding world-wide.

The Congress also offers a very important opportunity for international attendees to meet, exchange and renew their friendships. Don’t miss the Opening Reception, Wine & Cheese Reception (Japanese style) and Congress Dinner followed by dance party!  We also plan additional programs for you to experience the Japanese culture.

2015-2017 Yusuke Tanigawara

The Japanese TDM colleagues are your host with gentle hospitality called ‘o-mo-te-na-shi.’ We are confident that everyone will find interesting and enjoyable things to do and learn at the Congress. We are sincerely looking forward to hosting you in Kyoto.

世界各国からTDM&CTという志を同じくする仲間が京都に集います。日本の皆さまと共に海外からの参加者をおもてなしして本学術大会を盛り上げていきましょう。ご支援とご協力をお願い申し上げます。

Yusuke Tanigawara
Congress Chair

Welcome from the IATDMCT President

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the 15th Congress of the IATDMCT and the beautiful city of Kyoto. The theme of this meeting is “Expansion and evolution of TDM and CT”. This theme merges the history and future of our profession.

This has a special meaning for me, I have been a member of this organisation and attending meetings since my graduate studies, and throughout this time I have seen many advances and changes in the understanding and practice of TDM and Toxicology. And continuing to participate in these meetings I can see all the cutting edge work being done by our members around the world and I see a very exciting future.

2015-2017 Loralie Langman

An obvious part of this future is the young scientists; this meeting is an excellent opportunity to interact with colleagues young and … more senior … from around the world where we can all discuss new and exciting breakthroughs in an atmosphere of collegiality and friendship spanning the globe.

I want to acknowledge and thank the local organizers as well as the sponsors, for what I am sure will be a very enjoyable experience

We may be separated by geography but we are united by science.

Sincerely,

Loralie Langman
President of the IATDMCT

PL-1
Mass spectrometry for research and clinical implementation of TDM & CT

Hans H. Maurer

In clinical pharmacology and in clinical toxicology, the desirable or undesirable effects of drugs or poisons are assessed by the blood (plasma/serum) concentrations of the acting compounds and/or corresponding biomarkers in correlation to pharmacological, pharmacokinetic, and clinical data. In contrast to therapeutic drug monitoring, in many clinical toxicology and forensic toxicology cases, the applied drugs or poisons are unknown, so that a targeted or comprehensive screening has to be performed before quantification. Today, besides immunoassays (IA), various hyphenated low and high-resolution (HR) mass spectrometry (MS) techniques are used such as gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), capillary electrophoresis (CE), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI), or paper spray ionization (PSI) coupled to quadrupole (Q), ion trap (IT), time-of-flight (TOF), or Orbitrap (OT) analyzers. Then, the scope is to review the current applications of various hyphenated low and high-resolution mass spectrometry techniques in the field of TDM and clinical/forensic toxicology in both, research and practice.

The IATDMCT President, Council Members and Committee Members invite all ITADMCT members to join us in the Main Hall, during the 15th IATDMCT Congress in Kyoto, for a full report on the activities of the Association and upcoming events.

IATDMCT Scientific Committees Meetings

Join us at one of these upcoming meetings...

One of the most exciting benefits of being an IATDMCT member is the opportunity to be part of one or more of the IATDMCT Scientific Committees. Currently there are 9 IATDMCT Scientific Committees. All of them are established with the goal to provide a platform for vivid exchange of information between scientists who have a particular interest in important fields of TDM and CT.

The IATDMCT Scientific Committees develop numerous initiatives and work on exciting projects in support of effective and state of the art application of TDM/CT tools and practices in medicine.  Visit the webpages of each Scientific Committee to learn more about the ongoing specific activities.

Don’t miss the opportunity to attend meetings of the IATDMCT Scientific Committees to be held during the Congress. All of these meetings are open and all IATDMCT members are kindly invited to participate as well as to join the Committees.

Communications Committee Corner: Meet the CC Tonight

Foundation of the Communications Committee

When I proposed to launch a Communications Committee within IATDMCT, I never imagined it would become so important and successful.

DC 2017 Mon 9 Photo Pierre Marquet

The idea at that time was to organize a small group of members around the Compass editor-in-chief to help with the Newsletter, make the best possible use of the advertisement page reserved for our association in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring journal, and keep our recently refurbished website up-to-date with fresh news.

The alchemy within this group, in particular around Denise McKeown and Maria Shipkova, worked so well that, not only did they outreach these goals beyond my wildest dreams, but they also set up a monthly E-News, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts and kept them thriving (special thanks to Jana Stojanova here!). They also organized the translation of webpages into several languages, populated it with educational material and so on and so on …

This is certainly the best decision I made during my presidency!
